Google and the Giant Pledge raise £80k to fight childhood cancer
Google UK select one charity a year that they support in all their fundraising efforts and in 2019 this was George and the Giant Pledge, a charity set up by a Google employee to raise money to fight children’s cancer.
Google wanted to organise a final fundraising gala dinner to mark the end of their annual work with Giant Pledge. Having worked with them on previous events, they asked 1331 Events to get involved once again to help them plan the strategy and logistics of the event.

Deliverables
1331 Events recommended Claridge’s for the venue, as it would act as a draw for attendees and provide a suitable environment for a black-tie gala dinner. Claridge’s also offers a charity dinner package, which offered cost-savings for the client and therefore maximized the fundraising profit. 1331 then leveraged their strong relationships with suppliers to negotiate discounted deals on AV and on the technology required for the silent auction.
They worked with the Google team on all of the logistics for the dinner including management of the suppliers, all necessary H&S and risk assessments, event collateral, running order, show-flow, raffle, entertainment management and the opening VT.
Results
Claridge’s that evening was packed, with over 180 people in attendance. The atmosphere was amazing with just the right balance of fun, laughter and emotion, and with raffle tickets sales and the silent auction, Google and Giant Pledge were able to raise over £80,000 that night to benefit Royal Marsden in their continued fight against children’s cancer.
